Welcome to the newsletter.

Next Friday we are absolutely delighted to invite parents & carers back into our assembly. Not only that but we will be running a Coffee Morning afterwards to welcome you all back after a very long two year break.

We would be delighted if you could join us for coffee and a chat, and we look forward to seeing you next week.

SPONSORSHIP SUCCESS

Following our visit from the professional athlete a couple of weeks ago at St Luke's, the children were asked to raise money for sports equipment for the school through sponsorship. Sisters Shirley and Kiera managed to raise a staggering £250 between them. Well done and thanks to them and everyone who managed top raise so much.

TENNIS, TEETH AND TEA PARTIES

Potter Class at The Collett have started tennis lessons, which have been lots of fun, and they have been learning about dentists and teeth. The children played together outside to create a dinosaur's tea party too!

PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

On Thursday 26th of May be will be holding a street party at the school as part of the Queen's 75th Platinum Jubilee celebrations. You will have received a letter regarding lunch on this day.

It will be held on the playground and there will be fun and games and food, and we will be asking children and staff to come in dressed in red white and blue or in 1950's themed costumes.

We are also asking for donations of cakes and treats for the day. So if you're the queen of fairy cakes, the king of chocolate brownies or reign supreme with your sponge cakes, then we would love as many donations as possible. Please send all donations in on the day.

The children will be making decorations for the event including bunting and party hats.

We want this to be a day to remember for us all.

SHEEP SHEARING

Today was sheep shearing day over at St Luke's.

Shaun and Thumbelina underwent a hairdressing transformation courtesy of Mr Colley and Miss Crawford.

It's certainly not their favourite time of the year but as the weather gets warmer it's essential that their coats are removed.

UNO!

During lunchtimes, the students in Upper School at The Collett have the opportunity to use quiet spaces, such as the cabin, for different activities. Over the past couple of weeks, we have enjoyed playing 'Uno'. The children have helped each other to understand the rules, worked together and coped well with winning and losing.

COLLEGE VISIT

Last Friday a group of Year 11 students from St Luke's visited Oakland’s College as part of their transition programme. They practised their communication and money skills in the café, buying snacks and lunch independently.

The Blue Tangerine Federation is exhibiting their ‘plant magic’ garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in just over 2 weeks time and preparations are well underway!

However, the funds are running low, and we would really appreciate your help in hitting our target.

INDEPENDENT WORK

Noah from Dahl class at The Collett has written a great recount of chapter 2 of the book "Firebird", and the strengths and weaknesses of the characters.

Noah worked independently and he wrote a whole page! Noah was proud of his work and enjoyed showing members of staff. Well done Noah.

PIZZA EXPRESS TRIP

Dragonfly class from St Luke's spent the morning at Pizza Express in Hemel Hempstead this week. They listened carefully and were all able to make a delicious margarita pizza each. As their pizzas were cooking, they enjoyed sampling some amazing dough balls.

I'M WITH THE BAND!

The 'Crazy Kids' of Collett made their debut performance last week and brought rock'n'roll to The Collett school! Lower school, Upper School and teachers alike rocked out and let their hair down while the band showcased their best tunes. Well done to the band! Miss Kirby) and Miss McIntyre are so proud of you.

PROBLEM SOLVING

On a weekly basis Grasshoppers class at St Luke's have a problem solving skills session which includes teamwork and good communication. They have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions so far this term. Working together to travel on the chairs without putting their feet down and moving the tennis ball along the drainpipes without dropping the ball.

POLICE VISIT

Wednesday was a very exciting day for the children in the Lower School at The Collett as they had a visit from the police. Three local police officers came to talk to the children as part of their topic 'Keeping Safe'. The children asked and answered some great questions and were excited to sit in the police patrol car. They were even allowed to try out the sirens and flashing lights. Apologies to the local neighbours!
