Peer Mentors

There are often times when young people do not want to share their concerns directly with members of staff, but feel more confident with the opportunity to share with their peers.
St Luke’s, in the last year has embarked on training some of our young people to be PEER MENTORS.
Our Peer Mentors not only listen to the students, and contact the adults who might be able to help with the students’ concerns; they will also run activity club where some of the vulnerable students can come, relax and socialise.
Our peer mentors can be found in the dining room at break times and the Geography room at lunch times  ( Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri)  except on wet breaks and lunch times, when the students are expected to be in their form rooms

On the last day of the autumn term we received the good news that St Lukes has achieved Anti- Bullying Accreditation.  We are only the second school in Hertfordshire to achieve this award and so we should all be proud of the hard work that both pupils and staff do on a daily basis to ensure that bullying is something that will not be tolerated at this school.

The pupils have all completed the first year of their SEAL programme (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning).  This takes place four days per week in their Family Groups and all aspects of relationships are addressed, including the different needs of all pupils in the school and out in the wider world in general.  Obviously this awareness has created a more tolerant and well-informed group of young people who are able to accept the differences in others.  We constantly work towards increasing independence and understanding and it is rewarding to see that all of this hard work has been recognised by Hertfordshire.

Once again, a big thank you to all pupils and staff! The school takes the emotional health of our community very seriously.  In particular I would like to say a big thank you to the Learning Mentors who work with both with individual pupils on a daily basis and in Skills Groups where group dynamics, anger management and Protective Behaviours are re-visited regularly.

Year 7 Induction Trip to Phasels Wood - September 2010

On Tuesday 7th September and as part of our induction programme, most of the students in Years 7 and 8 went on a visit to Phasels Wood Activity Centre.

The aim of the day was to allow students to meet the other people in their new
teaching groups and some of their teachers for the new year at school. Each student had an action-packed day participating in a number of different activities, which included archery, climbing, abseiling and pedal-car racing. Some students also had races on the Cresta Run and climbed as high as they could on milk crates!
All students behaved very well and had a fantastic time!
