World Book Day 2011!
Friday 4th March was the day students celebrated the joy of books. Well actually they started on Thursday afternoon. Some of the integrated groups really extended their World Book Day, when on Thursday they were visited by Nick Schon, illustrator for the Oxford Reading Tree series of books, (the man who draws Biff and Chip, not forgetting Floppy). In a two hour workshop for the owls, parrots, finches and turtles; he drew two stories from the students own imaginations. Leaving us with some valuable resources, to use as we will. On Friday we sent the whole of year seven off to the Roald Dahl Gallery. While the rest of us in school had their own Roald Dahl experiences with within family groups. In various locations around the school there were activities to titillate their taste for literature and invoke an interest in science. In one area they created sweets from Willy Wonka’s factory, watched over by the perfectionist himself. In another, a couple of mad scientists from George’s Marvellous Medicine created fizz bangs to entertain and excite. Around the corner near Willy Wonka’s chocolate river, crispies were produced to be taken home at the end of the day; wonder if they made it? And up another literary lane was Danny Champion of the World and his obstacle course, or his karmic brother’s yoga room experience. At the end of the day it was felt by all that they had thoroughly enjoyed the experience! |
