Specialist Schools Status

St Luke’s school is a Specialist Science and Humanities College with a Rural Dimension.

In the continued development of our resources, we now have an Environmental and Land-Based Studies (ELBS) Centre on site that is used throughout the curriculum, in addition to specific ELBS lessons, which develop our students into environmentally-aware citizens.  St Luke’s is also responsible for providing the ELBS curriculum for secondary schools within the St Albans Partnership Group; this includes elements of the Foundation Learning Tier and Diploma Pathways.

We have a large variety of small and exotic animals, both within the ELBS centre and around the school.  Students are involved with the care of these, as part of their ELBS lessons and during breaks and lunch-times in our animal care club.

Within the school grounds we have also developed areas of horticulture as part of the curriculum for both St Luke’s students and others within our community, which includes local primary schools and the Redbourn and Villages Extended Network of Schools (RAVENS).
