Key Stage 2

For pupils who are in Years 5 and 6, most of the lessons are taught in our Junior classroom.  Students spend 12 lessons each week on topic based learning.  Each term, pupils will work on the same project which will cover the curriculum for English, science, humanities, art, drama, music, technology and PSHCE.

The topics covered during the next year will include ‘Children in World War II’ and ‘Castles’.  During each topic, pupils will make a project book which will include all of their work from the term.

The teacher of the Junior class is Mr. Maher.

For the rest of the timetable, the student’s lessons will be:

  • Maths – 5 lessons each week based on the Numeracy framework.
  • Games and P.E – for part of the year, this will include swimming and dance.
  • European Studies – students will learn about different countries in Europe; their languages, geography and cultures.
  • Life Skills – pupils will learn about how they can stay safe when out and about, how to look after themselves and others.
  • Land Studies – Based in our new land studies centre, students will have the opportunity to explore the world around them, working outside in the gardens and looking after the many different animals.

In all subjects, students will be encouraged to develop their personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS), to make them more aware of how they learn and how they can improve.
