About St Luke's SchoolOur SchoolSt Luke's is a county special school for students with moderate learning difficulties and associated needs. From Sept 2001 the school has had provision for students with high functioning autism/asperger's syndrome in addition to their learning difficulties. The school is situated in Redbourn, a village close to the County boundary, in the central area of Hertfordshire. Pupils live mainly in St Albans, Welwyn, Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead and the surrounding district. The school is housed in the majority of the buildings which formerly constituted Redbourn Secondary School. The building is spacious and provides facilities not normally available to a special needs school. The playing fields accommodate one junior and four full sized football pitches, a hockey pitch, and an all weather cricket wicket. The tarmac area includes fenced tennis, netball courts, and a basketball court. The school is staffed by:-Head Teacher, Deputy Head, 2 Directors - Teaching and Learning and Access, Participation and Inclusion, 22 f/t and p/t teachers, 2 Learning Facilitators, both of whom have acquired Higher Level Teaching Assistant status, 2 Learning Mentors, 26 teaching assistants and technicians, School Manager and 5 admin staff, a site Supervisor, cleaning and kitchen staff. Visiting professionals provide speech therapy and physiotherapy. The school Doctor, Nurse, Connexions Advisers, Educational Welfare Officer, Educational Psychologist, Advisory teacher for students with hearing impairment, Advisory Teacher for Autism, a counsellor and Music Therapist, visit regularly. The site also accommodates the Oaklands College Transition Course for post-16 students, and the Heathlands at St Luke's Unit for students with hearing impairment and learning difficulties.
